Club Locker Mass email capability launch and Squash NS Memberships
Club Locker just released a mass email capability to allow SNS to communicate with its members. This morning we reached out to members past and present about the NS Open via that method. If you received more than one email, then either you personally have more than one account in Club Locker, which is a problem) or you have set up accounts for more than one person using your email (which is fine).
I am posting this to let people know that the emails went out. If you were or are a member of Squash NS and did not receive an email, and you want to, then please reach out to Graham and let him know. If you do not want to receive any more emails from Squash NS, please let Graham know so that we can take you off the membership list – you can then unsubscribe form the email you received. If you received an email,and you want to continue to receive them, but haven’t updated your membership since September please log in to your account https://novascotia.clublocker.com/login , go to the membership tab and upgrade/select your membership. Canada Games Summary
The 2019 Red Deer Canada Games have come to a wrap, capped off by a very impressive bronze medal victory by Douglas Kosciukiewicz!
The girls team finished 6th out of 11 teams, while the boys team finished 7th out of 12 teams. Both top placements among Atlantic teams.
Squash NS would like to congratulate all athletes on their exceptional performances and thank team coach Janet MacLeod and team manager Martin Dumas for their tireless contributions in preparing and traveling with the team!

Team Event
NS Boys placed 4th of 6 teams in Mens Pool B with a 1-1-3 record. They entered the team finals event in the 5-8 draw and lost to Manitoba in a tie break after a 2-2 tie. They play NB Friday at noon AST on court 2 for the 7/8 spot.
The Girls placed 3rd of 6 teams in Women’s Pool B with a 3-2 record losing only to BC and AB. They entered the team finals event in the 5-8 draw they played NL this evening and we are waiting for that result to be posted. They play Friday at 3:30 AST on court 1 or 2 either for the 5/6 or 7/8 spot depending on their result against NL.

- Douglas is in the Bronze medal game against the #4 seed Sam Scrivier of BC on Friday at 6pm AST. You should be able to see the game live here. To get there he defeated John Peyton from Newfoundland in the round of 16 11-3, 11-2, 11-7 and Matt Bicknel from BC in the quarters. Both matches on Sunday. He lost to the #1 seed Liam Marrison from Ontario this morning 7-11, 8-11, 6-11.
- Orlando was eliminated in the round of 16 losing to Seif Elfiky from Alberta 2-11, 0-11, 3-11.
In the girls competition
- Jumana Abouelela defeated Newfoundland’s Ashley Stringer 11-3, 11-7, 11-8 and then lost to the #4 seed Bethany Churchill from Alberta on Sunday 0-11, 3-11, 1-11. In today’s play in the classic plate draw, she lost to Quebec’s Iman Shaheen. She plays in the 7/8 playoff tonight against Alberta’s Jana Dweek at 9:40 AST on court 3 you should be able to see the game live here.

NS squash community to honour Ray Souchereau with memorial tournament
Members of Nova Scotia’s squash community are gathering this weekend in Halifax for the first annual Ray Souchereau Squash Classic tournament to celebrate the life of Souchereau and his contributions to the game of squash.
Souchereau passed away in November after a short illness. He was 57 and lived in Halifax.
“Ray was a selfless gentlemen who gave so much to the sport of squash and to everyone he met,” said Matt Bishop, who is organizing the tournament in Souchereau’s memory. “He played for the province, for the challenge and for the joy of it.”
Souchereau qualified as a Black Shirt referee, travelling to officiate at tournaments across the country. As a competitive player, he represented Nova Scotia in out-of-province tournaments.
He also hosted international players visiting the province for professional tournaments and entertained delegations visiting with the international squash organization known as The Jesters.
On weekend mornings, he could be found on the courts at Saint Mary’s playing “cutthroat” squash for fun.
The memorial tournament will take place at the SMUfit Club on 920 Tower Road in Halifax.
Matches will be played Friday night and all day Saturday with finals being played on Sunday morning and early afternoon. The public is welcome.

Team Tournament at Cole Harbour Place 7-10 March
Come try out a team tournament at CHP on the weekend of the 7-10 March 2019.
So what is it? The team tournament will see eight balanced teams formed by the organizers, from the tournament entrants to the tournament. Teams will vie for a trophy and cash prizes. Every team will play three matches.
