Dan Hasselman - President

Dan is an active squash player and has been playing on and off at Dalhousie since 2007, but continuously since 2018. Dan really enjoys engaging with members of our tight-knit squash community both on and off the court, and enjoys welcoming new players to the community through their participation in the Dalhousie Squash Club. Dan has been a member of the squash board since 2024 and enjoys giving back to the community.

Craig Potts - Vice President

Craig has been on the SNS Board since 2021, previously serving as Director of Competitive Programming. As VP since 2024, Craig supports operations of the Board, including: programming initiatives; league and tournament management; the association Newsletter, etc. Craig is also an Administrator for the Halifax Premier League.

Patrick Maule– Treasurer

Patrick is a fourth-year accounting student at Saint Mary’s University and originally from Ottawa. Growing up, hockey was his main sport as he played three years of Junior A hockey after high school before attending SMU. Patrick has been playing squash for almost two years now and has quickly discovered a passion for the game. He is excited to get more involved in the growing squash community and looks forward to meeting and connecting with fellow players.

Cindy Wheeler - Director of Developmental Programming (EDIA)

Cindy began playing squash about 2 1/2 years ago. She has been amazed at how welcoming and inclusive the squash community has been both to her and other younger players.

Cindy is excited to join the board as Director of Membership and Volunteers. As a big proponent of IDEA initiatives (inclusivity, diversity, equality and accessibility), she is looking forward to helping find new ways to keep growing squash so it is available to all. Cindy encourages anyone to reach out with any new ideas!

Rawan Abouelela - Director of Communications & Advocacy

Rawan has been playing squash for about 10 years, and it has become a huge part of her life. She is very excited to be on the board, to give back to the sport and community! Rawan hopes to support the amazing work already being done and help create new ways for the sport to grow across the province.

Gabrielle Morin - Director of Competitive Programming

Gabrielle has been involved in squash for as long as she can remember. Introduced to the sport as a young junior, she quickly developed a passion for the game and the strong sense of community that surrounds it. Gabrielle is excited to contribute to the Nova Scotia squash community in a meaningful way over the next year!

David Westwood - Director of Coaching & Officiating

David been playing squash and volunteering in the sport for 20 years. He plays primarily out of the Dalhousie Squash Club. In David's day job he is a Kinesiology Professor at Dalhousie University (and union leader) with expertise in vision, movement control, and skill -- He enjoys the combining his leisure and intellectual interests! David was the Sport Lead for Squash when SNS hosted the 2011 Canada Games in Halifax, and did live blogging for the Bluenose PSA Tournament before SquashTV was established.

Luke Poirier - Member-at-Large

Luke has played squash for the last 30 years, having grown up next to the courts in Mill River, PEI. He enjoys playing squash whenever he can, and loves taking his racket on vacation in order to meet new people and play a match in different locales. In the past, he has served on the board at Squash Moncton, and hopes to bring new perspectives to the excellent work Squash NS has been doing in recent years on growing the game.

Janet MacLeod - Member-at-Large

Janet B. MacLeod has worn, and continues to wear, many "squash hats". Janet coaches at all levels and is a Master Coach Developer, mentor, volunteer, and Masters player. Janet never shies away from lifelong learning and giving back. This is why she is happy to serve on the board of Squash NS (this will be her third time) where she hopes to help develop more coaches and coaching capacity in Nova Scotia, and serve as an open line of communication for the Annapolis Valley's squash community.

Justin Ching-Johnson - Member-at-Large

Justin began playing squash roughly 10 years ago. After discovering the sport Justin went on to serve as President of the Western University Squash club (2017-2018). Coming from a competitive badminton background, he can often be caught attempting some derivative of a jump smash on the squash courts.

Justin moved to Halifax in April 2024 and was grateful to find such a thriving, friendly, and supportive squash community within Nova Scotia. Justin currently serves as the Halifax Squash League (HSL) Convenor and as the Layout Editor for In the Nick (newsletter). Justin looks forward to actively contributing and continuing to support the Nova Scotian squash community.
