Cape Breton Squash Open – May 5-7

Welcome to the Cape Breton Squash Open being played at the Sydney YMCA!

The tournament will kick off Friday May 5th at 5pm and we will do our best to schedule first matches for out of town players late Friday or early Saturday morning (let us know if you have a preference). We are opening registration with two Divisions: All-Mixed and Women. Depending on registration numbers the divisions may be combined. Finals will play out early afternoon on Sunday May 7th.

The tournament includes a tournament souvenir, snacks and coffee across the whole weekend, and a Saturday night social (Details to follow).

Save Cape Breton Squash

The YMCA of Cape Breton is starting renovations on May 8th to the only regulation-sized squash courts available to the residents of Cape Breton. The renovations would include renovating one court to become a spin studio and using the other court as a multi-purpose room.

Squash NS supports our squash players in Cape Breton and wishes to see squash stay alive and well with the use of both the courts. Support Cape Breton Squash by liking their Facebook page here. Also,  sign the petition now to save the courts and keep squash alive in Cape Breton!

Women & Girls Community Coaching Course

Squash Nova Scotia is pleased to host a women’s only Community Squash Instructor Course including NCCP Making Ethical Decisions module!

The Community Squash Instructor Course trains coaches to help introduce the fundamentals of squash to beginners of all ages. By becoming a ‘Trained Community Squash Instructor’, you may assist Certified Coaches in your club or local community (ie. schools, clubs, etc.).

When: April 29, 2023 8:30am-5pm

Where: TBD in HRM

Price: Free! Course is fully subsidized by Squash Nova Scotia and Squash Canada

Who should attend: Gym Teachers, Juniors, Squash-playing Parents, B-C-D-E League level players, etc.

Course includes:

  • 8 hours of instruction
  • Coaches Manual
  • NCCP Making Ethical Decisions module

OLIVER Sport Canada Nova Scotia Squash Open – March 23-26

SMUfit is pleased to host the 2023 Nova Scotia Open. 

The tournament starts on Thursday evening for local players, and Friday at 5pm for out of town players. The Tournament provides a souvenir, Pizza on Thursday & Friday, coffee and snacks on Saturday and Sunday morning, lunch on Saturday & Sunday, and a Saturday evening Social (details to follow!). Oliver Sport Canada is the exclusive racquet and prize partner.

Minimum draw size 4. Full draws will be formed created based on player ratings. Juniors are invited to enter their age division and a second division.  Junior divisions may be combined up, or merged into Women or All-Mixed to meet minimum draw sizes.

2 match guarantee although registration numbers permitting, the organizers will try to ensure that that players get minimum three matches.

Registration Deadline Fast Approaching for the Ray Souchereau Memorial Squash Classic

The Ray Souchereau Memorial (RSM) Squash Classic is taking place February 9-12!

Please view the message below from the tournament organizers:

“I recognize not everyone knew Ray Souchereau from our community. That’s ok! His spirit was everything you love about squash.

I also recognize the titles of more familiar tournaments like the NS Open and the Atlantic Open are top of mind, but I can assure you this event will rival all tournaments.

How?

    1. You will be guaranteed 3 matches. (not 2)
    2. You will get a quality Harrow t-shirt in a bold Souchereau colour.
    3. You will get an etched glass for sipping your favourite liquid.
    4. You will be provided food Thursday through Sunday. Including Saturday wraps from Ela!
    5. You will be part of the Souchereau vibe that we could all use in February.
    6. You will help send off our NS squash Canada Games team!
